Caldeira Velha

Caldeira Velha is another beautiful destination in Sao Miguel in which I was able to visit. This location is a natural heritage site. You will see waterfalls, hot springs, vegetation and nature trails. It looks like a rain forest. When I was here, I made sure to go inside these hot springs, the water was so warm and the sound of the waterfalls was very relaxing. I got eaten by bugs but I didn’t mind because of how beautiful this place was. It honestly felt like a trip to the jungle.  This is a very popular tourist destination in  Sao Miguel so there was a lot of people there. They have showers and changing rooms to wash off after going inside of the hot springs. There’s even food trucks and souvenir shops for tourists to go to. I would definitely recommend this spot if you ever get the chance to travel to this island.

One of the most popular destinations in São Miguel is called Sete Cidades. This was definitely a highlight of my trip. We had to drive for about 30 minutes all the way up the mountains to get to the top, so that we could enjoy the view. We chose to drive but there are many people who choose to bike or go hiking along some of the many trails. During the drive up you will see beautiful hydrangea flowers that are all over the island. When I stepped out of the car, I remember feeling like I was in the clouds. It was a cloudy day and the wind was blowing strong.

This destination is popular because you have an amazing view of the massive volcanic crater and its also known for the colour lake. One half is blue and the other is green. They’re both volcanic craters and in the same body of water connected, however, they are still considered two separate lakes.
